Careers Information, Advice & Guidance at Ealing Fields:
Ealing Fields CofE High School is committed to preparing students for future success in education, employment and training. Our Careers programme uses the Gatsby Benchmarks & The Baker Clause to develop and implement our Careers provision and enable a range of education and training providers to regularly engage with all students across Year 7-11. Within our Careers programme, all students receive unbiased and impartial information about potential next steps and high quality careers guidance. We aim to provide high quality, meaningful opportunities for students to encounter the world of work and teach students a range of employability skills to ensure they have a successful future in the workplace. Our vision for Careers supports our whole school ethos (John 10:10) of nurturing students unique gifts, skills and talents and ensuring students enjoy ‘life in all its fullness’ and engage positively with their future life choices.

We are looking forward to welcoming 40-50 employers and Post 16 training providers to our school to meet with students and discuss career planning. Previously we have hosted a wide range of employers including BP, Microsoft, Chelsea FC, Capgemini, Crown Prosecution services, Buttercups, UK Foreign Office, Metropolitan Police, the NHS, The British Army and Orion Books. We would be delighted to hear from you if you are interested in attending.

Work Experience
We are aware for the planned work experience guarantee from September 2026 and have a comprehensive work experience programme in place for our students. All students complete a week of work experience in year 10 and all students from year 7-11 have meaningful encounters with employers multiple times a year, including our careers fair. Students complete both preparation and post experience reflections for these experiences.
If you feel you are able to offer a work experience placement to one of our students, we would be delighted to hear from you. This year work experience for our year 10 students will be taking place from 6th-10th July 2026.
Careers Guidance in schools - Statutory Frameworks:
In May 2025, the Department for Education (DfE) has published updated statutory guidance for schools, and guidance for further education colleges, sixth form colleges and independent training providers (ITPs). This supersedes previous guidance published in 2023, and reflects the priorities of the new Government, which are:
- Schools, colleges and independent training providers are expected to implement the updated Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance from September 2025, ensuring continuous improvement of the careers system through implementation. The update ensures the benchmarks remain fit for the future and lead to even better outcomes for young people, raising expectations and closing gaps for learners.
- To support the Government’s ambition to introduce a guarantee of two weeks’ worth of work experience during key stages 3 and 4. Institutions should begin to prepare and introduce multiple, meaningful and varied experiences to all young people in line with Gatsby Benchmark 6.
The Gatsby Benchmarks:
1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance
The Post 16 Act 2022:
In January 2018, the DfE introduced ‘The Baker Clause’ which stipulates that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in years 8-13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them. Furthermore, The Skills and Post 16-Act 2022 states that all students must have a minimum of 6 provider encounters before leaving school. It is expected that by doing so this will help address the UK’s productivity challenges and address skills shortages experienced across several sectors of the economy.
To ensure we are compliant with this legislation, we have developed excellent links & partnerships with the following organisations & providers, who regularly run assemblies, talks, small group sessions & workshops for our students:
- West London College
- Other local colleges (Including Brentford FC Post 16 Football Education Programme, Capel Manor, Uxbridge College)
- Ada Lovelace CofE High School (T Level provider)
- Inspiring the future (Boosting young people's motivation, attainment and future prospects by connecting volunteers from the world of work with schools)
- Springpod (Offering virtual work experience to students to experience a variety of work sectors)
- Xello - an online Career platform for all Y7-13 students (this provides students with a variety of different pathways into an industry)
- Ealing Youth Employability Partnership - Spark Charity supporting schools with employer engagement activities
- The British Army
- Microsoft
Meaningful encounters
In line with recent guidance we provide multiple opportunities for meaningful encounters with a variety of technical, academic and vocational providers and employers. Further information on the schedule for this can be found on our Careers Calendar. Each meaningful encounter has a clear outcome and encourages interactions between the students and employers and is followed by reflection time. These reflections are recorded in self evaluation booklets, work experience booklets, online forms and career fair feedback forms.
Additionally students take part in meaningful experiences during our annual careers fair and through workshops in each year group with employers such as Worley, Metropolitan Police, the British Army and our vast programme of career speakers.
We encourage virtual encounters with outside speakers and accommodate these at regular intervals throughout the year, including the big Apprenticeship Assembly, Language Outreach events and online guest speakers. These compliment our in person provision.
Quality Assurance within our Careers provision:
The quality of a school’s Career provision will be based on:
- How the curriculum extends beyond the academic, technical and vocational
- The Broader development of students; enabling students to discover interests and talents
- How students are prepared for future success in their next steps
- How schools promote an inclusive environment that meets the needs of all students
In order to regularly evaluate our Careers provision, we complete a compass tool once per year, which provides information about how we are achieving against the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our most recent Compass evaluation in May 2025 showed that we are clearly meeting all the Gatsby Benchmarks:

We also regular discuss our careers provision with our governance team, including our Careers link governor. The Leadership team recognise and prioritize the importance of our Careers provision and staff, student and parent surveys are used to further analyse our provision. The Careers leader keeps accurate records of students interests and learner involvement in the careers programme, including trips, workshops, careers fairs and other encounters with employers and workplace.
Staff take part in regular training regarding the careers provision at the school at all levels of personal development from ECT level 1 to Senior Leadership training. Staff all receive training ahead of 1:1 CIAG meetings so they are up to date with the most recent guidance and can offer bespoke and personalised support.
We are confident that our Careers provision is wide ranging, inclusive and diverse. Within our Pastoral Programme, Wider learning offer, Curriculum and additional Careers IAG provisions, we feel that we are giving students the right support, knowledge and skills to be successful in their future beyond Ealing Fields. Students with an EHCP have personalised support through their annual reviews and additional CIAG meetings. Student who are persistently absent receive home visits and regular conversations with parents regarding their next steps given their absenteeism from school.
As always, we are open to receiving feedback & suggestions for further ways to continue to develop & refine our Careers programme.
